Nebabin V.G. Methods and Techniques of Radar Recognition
Artech House, 1994. — 273 p.
Radar data provide solutions to the following problems: detection of targets, measurement of their parameters of motion, discrimination of targets, and recognition of targets. In the available literature, problems of theory and technique, measurement of parameters of motion, and discrimination of targets are considered fully and from the same standpoint. However, there are no books in which progress in the field of methods and techniques of radar recognition can be systematized, even though extensive research and experimental and qesign work is .going on in a number of countries, with large- numbers of published patents and articles. In the opinion of specialists, all multifunction radars of the 1990s will be busy with radar recognition [l.If. This work is aimed at analyzing the existing and forthcoming radar recogn'ition methods and techniques.
One of the most important trends in modem radar is the development of methods t to obtain possibly comprehensive information contained in radar signals and interference. Radar recognition is a part of this trend. Characteristics of secondary radiation fields from targets in the far zone of the radar are used in active radar as additional data for target recognition. As a rule, these characteristics depend on the orientation of the target parameters of its motion, dimensions, types of engines and their operating modes. and parameters of vibration of the airframe, as well as the transmitted signal parameters. signal processing methods, etc.
Several approaches to classification and recognition methods are possible. The most ~lpplicable classification of recognition methods is based on the type of signal transmitted! by the radar. Such a classification has been used in this book in describing recognition methods and equipment.
An attempt has been made to describe from a common standpoint the basic physical principles of radar recognition, methods, block diagrams, and especially the circuitry used to implement these methods. Materials in the open foreign press have been used in writing this book. Various classes of flying vehicles (fighters, bombers, etc.), as well as various types of aircraft of the same class, often called targets, are considered as objects for radar recognition.
The book is intended for radio engineers. It can also be used by students specializing in radio engineering. An objective and systematized description of the known radar recognition methods, approaches, and equipment is the principal aim of the book.
