New York: Gordon and Breach, 1965. — 136 p. — (Mathematics and Its Applications, 4).
This book is an elementary introduction to the topics mentioned in the title. It does not assume much knowledge of mathematics, but it does assume some interest and knowledge in elementary number theory. Except in a few cases we have avoided developing any topic in a formal manner, our first object being to stimulate the reader. There are several excellent textbooks in existence, and this is not a textbook.
