The best guidance for decisions on the military use of space would be a carefully thought out long-range strategy. The development of such a space strategy must begin with a clear understanding of national objectives. From this foundation must come a creative exploration of ways in which space and the military use of space can contribute to the achievement of these objectives. The results of this exploration must them be consolidated into an agreed upon long- range strategy for space that will serve as our road map to the future. This paper is primarily an attempt to synthesize a US military space strategy from elements of national policy, overall military strategy, military threats, economic constraints, political restrictions, and other areas that will shape the military use of space.
