After 40 years of brainwashing by the "powers that be", no one was more dedicated to the concept of cholesterol causation of atherosclerosis than was I. I was not only a NASA researcher and an astronaut, but as a medical doctor for 40 years I wrote thousands of prescriptions for whatever cholesterol busters were available. Of course, at that time we had not the slightest awareness of the special needs in our brains for glial cell cholesterol synthesis for memory processing. This knowledge of these specialized brain cells did not surface until much more recently and is now rapidly accumulating. As an example, at the time of this writing well over I 000 reports of transient global amnesia and serious mental disturbance have been reported to Medwatch just from Lipitor alone, since these glial cells are extremely sensitive to statins' touch. Consequently we have one more of many explanations for amnesia, forgetfulness, confusion and disorientation as well as other almost inevitable cognitive side effects that are being overlooked by thousands of physicians. "You're getting older," or, "Perhaps a touch of Alzheimer's?" were the prevailing excuses for this terrible oversight, while the hundreds of cases of the elderly passing on with dementia shortly after statins were started "for their health" is best left buried.
