Translate the Exercise on 2nd page, reading every word aloud as you write it. Go over it afterwards, making sure that all verbs are in the right ense, number and person, to agree with the Nominative. In order to be sure which is the nominative, ask yourself: who, or what is, or does, the state or action denoted by the verb ? Ex. : “he sings.” Who sings ? He. Then “He” is nominative to “sings;” and since “he” is third person singular number, then the 3rd person singular number of “to sing” [cantar] must be sought for, ere any word is written down. Next: go over and pick out all adjectives. Find what noun they qualify. Ask yourself: what gender is this noun? What number? Then if masculine, make your adjective masculine, if feminine, make it feminine; afterwards, if plural, make your adjective plural.
Then read all over again, aloud. Put in punctuation where necessary; and, when satisfied you have done your best, go to next part. If you have no teacher to whom to submit your worked exercise, then, and not unless, nor until then, get out your Key* and compare, carefully, every word. Any word that is wrong, carefully ascertain in what you were wrong; note the right way, and remember it. This may be somewhat tedious at first, but after a few weeks, it becomes a “habit” in the learner, and is then done almost mechanically.
Answer viva voce the Grammar Questions, looking up the rule if you are unable to answer either of them promptly and fully.
Turn to Conversational exercise. Cover up the English side with a slip of paper. Try to understand each sentence, reading it aloud. If not at first understood, read it again; and again.
