VanDine D.F. Debris Flow Control Structures for Forest Engineering

British Columbia Ministry of Forests, Research Branch. — Victoria, B.C., 1996. — 75 p.This report summarizes the results of a study on the use of debris flow control structures in forest engineering. The purposes of the study were:
to review and assess the viability and limitations of such structures; and
to provide a number of conceptual designs that are appropriate for forest engineering.
The results of the study have been used in the design and construction of a number of prototype debris flow control structures located on the
Queen Charlotte Islands. A larger structure was designed for a site on Vancouver Island, but as yet has not been constructed.
The study was carried out by Doug VanDine, PEng, PGeo, of VanDine Geological Engineering, Victoria, B.C., during 1991 and 1992 for B.C. Ministry of Forests, Research Branch, and was funded by the Fish/Forestry Interaction Program (FFIP).
