development of the material presented. Each photographer is introduced by a brief quotation which is central to his concern; beyond
this introductory statement all articles are quoted in full. An index of biographical notes and a selected bibliography have been prepared
on each contributor for additional reference. A short entry form has been adopted in citing the bibliographies (unless otherwise stated,
place of publication is New York City).
