Lewis Michael. Teaching Collocation: Further Developments in the Lexical Approach
Language Teaching Publications, 2000. — 244 p.: — ISBN: 1-899396-11-X.
Books of this kind tend to go from theory to practice; this book reverses that order. The authors in Part 1 describe how what they do in class has changed as a result of their developing awareness of the lexical nature of language. Part 2 describes in more detail the present state of our understanding of language and acquisition. Teachers who have tried some of the suggestions in Part 1, and want to take their understanding further, should turn particularly to Chapters 7 and 8. Teachers with a lot of experience of lexically-based teaching, or those on in-service courses may prefer to read these two chapters first, before returning to the more detailed practical suggestions of Part 1.
The contributors to this book have one principal objective - to develop learners’ mental lexicons, and with that, to give those learners a far wider range of life-choices. It is a worthwhile objective.
