Forty years ago I lived in Italy and spoke the language fluently within a few months of arrival with the help of this fantastic book (and a background of high school French and Latin). I tried college classes and recordings, but nothing matched the easy-to-understand lessons provided in K. Speight's "Teach Yourself Italian." Now that I'm planning a trip back to Italy and have forgotten most of the Italian I once knew, I have bought the same edition of the book from Amazon to refresh my memory. It is still a great read, and it's a thrill to be regaining that lost knowledge.
