Apatoczky Akos B. Yyiyu - a sixteenth century Sino-Mongol glossary

Budapest: Karoli Gaspar University, Institute of Oriental Languages and Cultures. — 193 p.However, there are still works forgotten in libraries the mere existence of which is only known by a few professionals whose broad base knowledge can direct us towards the exploration of these linguistic terrae incognitae. One of these works is the Sino-Mongol glossary Yiyu 譯語 (‘Translation’), which up to now has not yet been dependably deciphered (some reprints and one explanation in Mongolian by Manduqu have come to light. The shortcomings of these publications will be discussed later). This work will hopefully be of notable importance as a supportive reference tool for those interested in the history of the Mongolian languages supplying them with a significant body of lexicon of the late Middle Mongol vernacular.
